Why a Professional Photographer Can’t Live on Instagram Alone

Instagram Compresses, Your Site Doesn’t

Social networks compress your images, apply default filters, turn you into a square icon among a thousand others. A site of your own shows your photos the way you intended them: full-page, at the resolution you chose, with the typography and colors that tell your identity.

Google Brings Real Clients

Someone looking for a photographer for a wedding, a corporate shoot or an important portrait types “photographer + city + type” into Google. A local SEO-optimized landing page captures exactly that request, while Instagram only shows you to people who already follow you.

Clients Need Trust

Before booking a wedding photographer, a couple visits the website to read the indicative price list, see complete projects and understand who you are. A serious website (not a Linktree or a Facebook page) conveys professionalism and justifies a higher rate. The price reads better to someone who has already decided.

What You Get in Your Photographer Website

Optimized Full-Screen Galleries

Your photos full-page, with smart lazy loading, WebP/AVIF format served automatically, elegant lightboxes for full-screen viewing on mobile too. Images load fast even on a slow connection, with no visible loss of quality. Your digital film stays the undisputed star.

Portfolio Categories and Filters

Weddings, portraits, corporate events, food, still life, travel reportage: every genre gets its own dedicated section. Quick filters by year, location, type of service. Visitors find what they need right away, without scrolling through hundreds of unrelated shots. Great for positioning yourself in vertical niches too.

Private Client Portal

Every client receives a private, password-protected link to access their photos, download high-resolution files, pick their favorites for physical albums, share the gallery with family. No more WeTransfers expiring after 7 days or messy Google Drives: everything centralized on your domain.

Quote Form & Availability

A smart form that asks the client for date, location, type of service and indicative budget. Requests arrive already profiled in your inbox and on WhatsApp, so you only reply to the ones that make sense for you. Optional calendar with dates already booked, to avoid double bookings on peak-season weekends.

How We Work Together

1

Briefing & Shot Selection

An initial call to understand your positioning (luxury weddings, corporate, editorial, food), ideal audience and any existing visual identity. Together we choose the 30-60 most representative shots: careful curation, no endless portfolio that dilutes quality. We define tone, palette, typography.

2

Custom Design & Development

A static mockup of the main screens for sign-off, then development from scratch. No Squarespace or €49 WordPress templates: code written to measure, optimized for the real weight of your photos. Tested with your actual high-resolution files, not lorem ipsum and generic stock images. No heavy plugins loaded everywhere: only what’s needed.

3

Launch, SEO & Handover

High-performance hosting, domain configured, SSL, GDPR compliant. Google Search Console setup, sitemap, schema.org Photographer. A 10-minute mini video guide to upload new shoots yourself. No lock-in: the site is yours, code included. If you ever want to switch developers, you take it with you.

FAQ

How much does a website for a photographer cost?

It depends on complexity: from around €1,400 for a showcase site with a multi-category portfolio and quote form, up to €3,500-5,500 for a structured site with a private client portal, blog, dynamic price list and bilingual version. Free quote after a 30-minute call where we look at your work together and figure out what you really need.

Can I update the portfolio myself?

Yes. I build the admin area for photographers: you upload the high-res photos, pick the category, publish. The gallery lays itself out while keeping the design consistent. I automatically generate the optimized web versions (WebP/AVIF) so you don’t have to think about it. For the first 3 months I answer questions on WhatsApp for free.

How does the client portal actually work?

For every shoot you create a private gallery in 30 seconds: pick the photos, set a password, send the client the link. The client can view in high resolution, download, mark favorites for the album. You see how many photos they downloaded and whether they selected favorites. It replaces WeTransfer and Google Drive, and keeps everything under your domain.

Will the site be faster than Squarespace or Wix?

Yes, by a lot. Squarespace and Wix load hundreds of kilobytes of useless JavaScript to serve a portfolio. My code is minimal, the images are served in modern formats (AVIF, WebP), and the site easily hits 95+ on mobile PageSpeed. The benefit is twofold: clients happy not to wait, and Google rewarding you with higher rankings.

How long until it’s online?

4 to 7 weeks, depending on how quickly you send me the materials (photo selection, bio copy, service descriptions). The main slowdown almost always comes from there, not from development. If you already have a curated portfolio and copy ready, we can wrap up in 4 full weeks with the site online by the end of the following month.

Is the site optimized for search engines?

Yes. Semantic HTML5 code, schema.org Photograph and LocalBusiness, XML sitemap, curated meta tags on every page, descriptive alt text on images. I work with Trinity, the team’s SEO copywriter, to write copy that works for Google without betraying your authorial voice. I can create additional local landing pages (like “wedding photographer Bergamo”) to rank for specific queries.
