    Frequently asked questions

    What does this tool calculate?

From your date of birth it calculates where Earth was in its orbit, how far it was from the Sun in millions of kilometers and the phase of the Moon. Then it shows the planets and the brightest stars visible above the city you choose, at sunset on that day.

Do I need my time of birth? Can I choose any city?

You don't need the time: the date and the city are enough, because the sky is calculated for sunset on that day. The available cities are Italy's provincial capitals; if yours isn't there, choose the nearest provincial capital.

    How accurate are the calculations?

They're real astronomical calculations, done with a simplified model: low-precision J2000 orbital elements following Meeus. They're suitable for distance from the Sun, moon phase and visible planets, but they don't replace professional observatory software.

Is my date saved? How do I share the result?

The date is neither saved nor sent to any server: the calculation happens in your browser. With Share you generate an image ready for WhatsApp or Instagram; with Save image you download it. The tool is free and requires no sign-up.
